All Burma Young Monks Union

All Burma Young Monks Union
   (ABYMU)
Established on November 27, 1988, the ABYMU became a member of the Democratic Alliance of Burma (DAB) and supports its program of resisting the post-1988 military regime, though "within the bounds of Buddhist practices"; that is, it does not take part in armed struggle. In its publicity, it has drawn attention to the State Law and Order Restoration Council/State Peace and Development Council's arrest of dissident members of the Sangha and the council's attempts to use Buddhism to secure its hold on power.
